Soul Deserted

                                                 (Image from: Mobileadvertisingwatch.com)

It was the roots
and the flowers
It was the leaves
and the branches

Everything was considered
proved wanting and wanted
It was love
It was hate
It was joy
It was late

A quarter of a century's
worth of waiting
not knowing it was all
that was needed

The seasons don't matter
We only knew sun and rain
We were happiest
when we had nothing
Loving from a distance
Cold at night
Warm in the thought
Summer when we talked
Balmy beaches, cold drinks
In hand, affection in the heart

You departed
I stayed
You have learned bitterness
Shouting out to everyone
How you got manhandled,
mistreated and left out
in the cold

Licking your wounds
in the desert
Where the coyote howls
your pain for you
The rattlesnake hisses revenge
The cactus survives eating sun and sand

Em Dash

(Image from I.guim.co.uk)

Long-distance running
is futile if all is needed
is a dash
Let 'em sprint when
his spirit is willing
He flies on wings white
with the sun's smile
darkened by moods
that turn violent, sudden
as thunderstorms
from the east
Soaring to heights
never aspired for
finding love in mid-range
older than bald
unsightlier than labor lost
Yearn for return
Strip soul soldiering
faith let go in inches
In a war where
words get dirty down defeated
The reappearance
shall bring peace
A return of fields pristine
Golden, healthy, moving
onward in a lope

A Regret

                                               (Image from www.wallcoo.net)

A regret to never having seen you dance
on feet un-ballerinalike, a behind Beyonce worthy
Voice that half whispers, half flirts
They all fall in love with you
But you claim I'm your Ali, the greatest
Your Hulk, the biggest, greenest,
Dirtiest, meanest, most honest
Love of all time
Is a long time
I believe you each time
The fool that I am
We haven't even lived
One percent of one percent
Of eternity and we fight
Forever it seems now
Missing you even though
I know you're hating me
This time for keeps it seems
Goodbye is your favorite word
It is unsheathed, a sword

Henceforth & Hereafter

                                                  (Image from Johnrmath.com)

It took the earth shaking its head as if denying
The miraculous discovery of love unfettered by ideals
Bound by nothing but whispered suggestions
That this affection is true
The primacy of the world’s first dawning
Produced dew on the greenest blade of grass
We are old enough to realize, to submit to laws
We used to mock, at best ignored
We are tired, we are wiser
We are not giving up
Just sleeping off glory’s hangover
Every day henceforth is hope and yearning conjoined
See you in the here and the hereafter

On The Street Where I Live

On the street where I live
Corner Rose and Tulip
Love and rejection intersect
The taking and the purging
Adoration and detestation
Religions of the mad
Sanctifying the sad
War and devastation
Building houses in the sky
They fall and still you wonder why
Sand, guardian of cerulean sea
Would have been better
But for the mountains of delusions
Offers of company and currency
From across the greatest ocean, vast divide
Growing older in comfort and misery
For lost love and prideful hurts
Casualties of weird know no bounds
Atlas shirked his titanic task
The gods condemn mortal foibles
Forgetting they are of clay themselves
I live on a street
Where doves hawk wares
Unaware of the fear that makes
The world go sensurround
Getting off is not an option
But, please, do so
Get off on your private kicks
The gents will soon have no dames
The streets will soon have no names

Legerdemain

                                (Image from Feritrad.org)

Love lost is the most exquisite pain.
A crushed heart bleeds worse than the reddest rose.
Tears are real but unbelieved.
Words are mocked for being slave to sentences.
Lies can pass for the truth as craft is refined.
Promises linger for as long as they are heard.
Lecture a loser and he wins.
It's all sleight of hand.

The End?

                                                    (Image from Us.123rf.com)
Rain on skin
Salt in the blood
It doesn't get any better
than this
Ripping ties earthbound
Seeking love in death
What could be
More romantic than
The end?

No Ashes On Reef

                                                            (Image from Pauldixonwebdesign.co.uk)

No ashes on reef
Lose not the grief
Should you only
Replace it with
What is not right

Ask me for no favors
Don't make me change color
From fair to dark
Love lust dishonor

Boredom and a Broken Heart

(Image from Mistwalkerphotography.files.wordpress.com)

Boredom and a broken heart
the most lethal of combos
Ennui its opposite
Want and wanting more
Not even a lot
Love lies bleeding in public
Heart in sleeveless tattooed arm
Stories to tell of pasts
Dug up and dug up and bared
Lies and games head up shoot down
Mean mister bastard petty and pretty
She does you no good, what a pity
Deception recognition
She is good, you are bad
Girls love bad boys, tough boys
Pure and selfless shit more lies
Slum high society two-in-one coffee
Flirtation with dirt-cheap sanctity
Sex in the city of green stones, black hearts
I am bored
I want to die
The death of a thousand cuts
Glass on chest crawl the snake
That you are worthless piece of shit
Boring, who wants to hear tales
Of broken hearts when broken heads
Are more interesting?
Now we are talking

Horse Beatitudes

(Image from Charsilks.com)
It rains on New Year’s night/falls hard on the roof the sound of horses galloping in unison breaking stride/marching to the end of the word/peace remains elusive/in hearts troubled by love illicit/a matter of perspective/and strength/affection close cousin of sentiment not enough when no vessels span the seas/bridge the islands/taking you there/I wrote that for minimum daily wage and banana cue plus a bottle of Coke/north of Eden/hid from spouses psychotic/city-bred kinetic/cynic of smirking spirits having flown the coop/we can’t go home again and don’t insist/because horses’ hooves in the thousands drum roll a single note in feel rent crying for release/the hounds howl equine in stride/proud in stares and whispers

Short Wings

(Image by Luc Viatour from www.upload.wikimedia.org)

Live impermanent of cycles
Memories transparent shimmering
In the dim of sun, gloom of moon
Sisters of dragons flying low, waiting vainly
Of knights blue armor diving smokeless jets
Amassing not for war but for love, peace

A creature that dies everyday cannot go extinct
It lives dead between vampires and recall
Forgetting nothing, eating air
Breeding, springing forth gushers
Nymphs and imps watching
Long may you fly, bye

The Arrogance of Stephen Hawking

The arrogance of Stephen Hawking
is the insistence of humans that they matter
more than something else.
Big Bang, theoretical physicist, which came first
the physicist or the bang?

Hawking once straddled the faith fence
not committing to one side.
Later changed his mind
with gravity pulling his ego down
to the molten core
where everything melts
including event horizons.

Did you do it for love?/Did you do it for money?/Did you do it for spite?/Do you think you had to, honey? The Long Run/The Eagles

Marrying for Money

Not expecting marrying for money’d be this bad
No sex for love, no sex for love
Security, comfort, prestige -- unworth the air printed on
Sow the seeds of lust, barren feelings field
Birds, insects feast on unburied seeds
Thorny plants choke seedlings
The foolish man builds a house on mud
The foolish woman believes middle class is sad
Dead is sad, indifference mad
Not expecting marrying for money’d be this bad

Twice

(For Gift)

Bitten, my loves, bit,
ate their hearts
Out, over a jewel they are not: cannot be, have.
Had felt it just twice in six.
Years go by like
so many sweet spells.
Sour fuels, nervous energy
keep me running.
I stumble & don’t notice,
too late, too deep, the wound –
Smiles & bleeds.
I fight & get worse.
I hurt & curse. We fight.
Have I fought enough for peace, for friends, for trust, for tranquility?
For complacence, I don’t do anything.
The feeling runs its own course.
One does not notice until it’s beside you.
Neck to neck, heart to heart.
You can’t keep hungry hearts apart.
Born to run, afire from the start.
Corny is just another word
For love’s the truth.
Told her.
Went for broke.
Nothing & all.
Wasted.
Was that all there was to it?
Get close, then get lost?
Spilt, nothing saved.
The floor’s still cold.
Warm, as long as the sun stays.
It will go away, for sure.
One got away in silence,
three years stretched.
One about to,
Go away. Away, yeah, away.
Scat!
Twice bitten, I died. I die. I keep on dying.
Damn death deadbeat heart hurts.
